What are custom fields and how should I use them?

You can use our Custom Fields to help organize, filter, and generate reports about your product listings.

Reviewbox makes it easy to organize, filter, and track your listings across marketplaces and retailers using Custom Fields. We define Custom Fields as any additional columns in your product catalog beyond those required by Reviewbox. Examples include the product category, brand, collection, business unit, internal model number, UPC, SKU, and other information.

Here's an example product catalog:

source id Name Category Brand Business Unit

walmart 132120386 The Pioneer Woman Ditsy Floral Ruffle Queen Sheet Set Sheet Sets The Pioneer Woman B

You'll notice that the columns Name, Category, Brand, and Business Unit are custom fields. They are used to organize and delineate the catalog.

For example, you might want to compare the reviews over time of 'Bath Tissue' items on Amazon vs. Walmart. Or you might want to track the copy and images associated with 'Scott' brand Bath Tissue across several retailers. Finally, the Business Unit column allows you to group several brands together for reporting and analysis.

Track your listings across marketplaces

One of the most common uses of Reviewbox Custom Fields is to track products across multiple retail sites. To enable this you should add a field to the catalog that specifies your identifier for the product (such as a manufacturer model number; MMN). There should be one line in your catalog for every unique listing (item x retailer combination). An fabricated example is shown below:

source id Brand MMN
amazon XXXXXXXXXX HomeTrends 2065
target XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2065
overstock XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2065
amazon XXXXXXXXXX HomeTrends 2116
target XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2116
overstock XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2116
amazon XXXXXXXXXX HomeTrends 2138
target XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2138
overstock XXXXXXXXXX Moderna 2138

This example shows three different products (based on MMN) that are sold on three different retailers. Often the product name and brand are different across retailers, so the only way to group these listings is using the MMN. Pricebox offers a number of features to compare stock levels and pricing across retailers, based on MMN or another Custom Field identifier.
